Rogelio Séptimo
Morelia, Michoacán, 1978.
Fotógrafo y gestor cultural. Su obra investiga la intersección entre la memoria, la identidad y lo histórico como registro de procesos interiores más allá del espectro fotográfico. A través de sus proyectos experimenta con la luz y la óptica como elemento primario de la fotografía así como la investigación de procesos a través de la inteligencia artificial y software generativo.
Ha participado en exposiciones en Francia, Inglaterra, Marruecos, Chile, Estados Unidos y México. Actualmente obtuvo el premio de adquisición en la XX Bienal de Fotografía del Centro de la Imagen y es miembro del Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte (SNCA). Es artista seleccionado de BIENALSUR 2023 (Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo del Sur) en Argentina. Fue seleccionado en la XIX y XII Bienal de Fotografía del Centro de la Imagen. En 2022 fue seleccionado en en la New York Latin American Art Triennial. Ha sido beneficiario del programa de Fomento a Proyectos y Coinversiones Culturales del FONCA. En el 2022 fue tutor de la Clínica de Proyectos Fotográficos del Centro de La Imagen. En 2021 participó como nominador invitado de la Plataforma PICS del Centro de la Imagen. Ha sido beneficiario de la beca Bancomer BBVA de Apoyo a las Artes así como del programa Jóvenes Creadores del FONCA. En 2018 publicó el fotolibro Somne, el cual ha sido presentado en los festivales Paris Photo, Polycopies, Les Reencontres de d’Arles, Unseen Amsterdam y Zona Maco y en 2019 su fotolibro formó parte de la selección de autores latinoamericanos en The Photographers’ Gallery en Londres. Su obra ha sido publicada en las revistas como Fisheye Magazine 35 de Francia y la plataforma Europea de fotografía Artdoc Photography Magazine. Su obra pertenece a las colecciones de la Fondation Nationale des Musées (Marruecos), Centro de la Imagen (México), The Photographers’ Gallery (Londres), Le Plac’Art Photo Gallery (París), MAC Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Santiago (Chile) y el Centro de las Artes (México).
En el 2010 junto con Rayito Flores Pelcastre funda el proyecto Catako Espacio de Creación en la ciudad de Morelia del cual es coordinador.
En el 2013 inicia el proyecto comunitario de laboratorios fotográficos “La Vuelta al Lago en 80 Imágenes” en el lago de Pátzcuaro, Michoacán del cual es coordinador.
Is a Mexican photographer and cultural manager, his work investigates the intersection between memory, and identity as the historical record of interior processes beyond the formal photographic spectrum, with the use of new technologies like artificial intelligence or analog alternative photography, his projects experiment with a fragmented narrative of the inner perception of the human condition.
He has participated in exhibitions in France, England, Chile, United States and Mexico. He has received the Acquisition prize of the XX Mexican Photography Biennial by Centro de la Imagen institute and has been selected in international art platforms such as the International Biennial of Contemporary Art of South America BIENALSUR 2023 in Argentina and the New York Latin American Art Triennial 2022. He is currently part of the National System of Art Creators grant from the National Arts Fund. Previously he has been a beneficiary of the Program for the Promotion of Cultural Projects and Co-investments from the National Arts Fund and has been selected in the XIX and XII Photography Biennial in Mexico. In 2022 he was tutor of ‘Latitudes’ photography program by Centro de la Imagen institute. He has been a beneficiary of the Bancomer BBVA Grant to Support the Arts as well as the FONCA Young Creators grant from National Arts Fund in Mexico.
In 2018 he published the photobook Somne, which has been presented at Paris Photo, Polycopies, Les Reencontres de d’Arles, Unseen Amsterdam and Zona Maco festivals. In 2019 the book was selected in a Latin American authors exhibition at The Photographers’ Gallery in London. His work has been published in magazines such as Fisheye Magazine 35 from France and the Europe-based photography platform Artdoc Magazine, and is part of public collections such as Centro de la Imagen Collection in Mexico, La Fondation Nationale des Musée in Morocco, The Photographers’ Gallery in London, Le Plac’Art Photo Gallery in Paris, The MAC Contemporary Art Museum collection in Chile among others, as well as private collections.
